Ecuador is one the 12 pilot countries participating in the pilot project "Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)". The project was part of the work program approved by the May 2001 Council meeting. That same meeting also approved the Guidelines for POPs enabling activities. This proposal is for an add-on that would Ecuador to complete the work needed to finalise its NIP. This add-on requested by Ecuador was envisaged at time of WP approval and CEO endorsement.

The overall project goal of the market-oriented smallholder development project (IDA) is to accelerate agricultural growth and poverty reduction within the Central Region of Mozambique in line with PARPA priorities. The immediate project development objective is to increase the income of smallholder farmers in selected districts by empowering producers and building their organizations, increasing on- and off-farm production and productivity and facilitating access to markets.

The primary purpose of the Country Support Program (CSP) for Focal Points is to respond to the requests and needs of GEF recipient countries for tools to assist them to respond to their obligations as GEF recipient countries as well as obligations contained within the global conventions (biodiversity, climate change and POPs) for which the GEF is the financial mechanism, as well as the convention on desertification for which the GEF is a financial mechanism.
