Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i.Develop a comprehensive country driven NIP for reduction and elimination of POPs in compliance with the provisions of the Stockholm Convention ii.Prepare the ground for implementation of the Convention in the Republic of Guinea iii.Achieve a high level of awareness of the POPs issue and sustained ownership of the NIP among all stakeholders iv.Assist Guinea in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; and v.Strengthen Guinea

The Objective of the present Project is therefore to enable country parties to undertake their national reporting obligations towards the CBD.

To promote the integrated planning and management of marine and costal ecosystems in the Multiple-Use Marine
Areas (MUMAs) Golfo de Nicoya and Pacífico Sur (Puntarena Province), with the goal of conserving important
biodiversity, maintaining the provision of crucial ecosystem services, and providing a basis for sustainable socioeconomic
development through tourism, artisanal fishing and other income generating activities at the local scale.

The objective of the proposed project is to secure the long-term sustainability of the Payment for Environmental Services (PSA) program for sustainable natural resource management and biodiversity conservation.

Consolidate on-going efforts on the part of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico to sustainably manage the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (MBRS) and expand their scope to cover existing gaps to safeguard the functional integrity of the shared regional ecosystem.

The global objective of this project is to assist Ghana in mitigating climate change through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The development objective is to provide increased access to affordable, clean, and efficient energy services. The GEF project intends to assist Ghana in establishing an enabling environment of a policy and regulatory framework and facilitating market development to attract private sector participation in large-scale commercialization of RE/EE.

Ecuador is one the 12 pilot countries participating in the pilot project "Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)". The project was part of the work program approved by the May 2001 Council meeting. That same meeting also approved the Guidelines for POPs enabling activities. This proposal is for an add-on that would Ecuador to complete the work needed to finalise its NIP. This add-on requested by Ecuador was envisaged at time of WP approval and CEO endorsement.

The overall project goal of the market-oriented smallholder development project (IDA) is to accelerate agricultural growth and poverty reduction within the Central Region of Mozambique in line with PARPA priorities. The immediate project development objective is to increase the income of smallholder farmers in selected districts by empowering producers and building their organizations, increasing on- and off-farm production and productivity and facilitating access to markets.

The proposed project, designed for specific communities in the state of Chiapas, would link traditional and religious values with a variety of arrangements for promoting forest and species conservation.

The primary purpose of the Country Support Program (CSP) for Focal Points is to respond to the requests and needs of GEF recipient countries for tools to assist them to respond to their obligations as GEF recipient countries as well as obligations contained within the global conventions (biodiversity, climate change and POPs) for which the GEF is the financial mechanism, as well as the convention on desertification for which the GEF is a financial mechanism.
