The DM program operates at two levels: Global and Country or Regional level. At the global level, the DM team holds a worldwide competition held every 12-18 months at World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. To date, the Global DM has disbursed over US$23 million in awards to 171 projects through five competitions. These projects are being implemented in more than 60 countries by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, private sector businesses, government agencies and other development actors. The average award size is $150,000 Maximum would be $200,000.

The proposed project supports regional efforts to define adaptation measures to meet the anticipated impacts from Climate Change in the Andean highlands and in prioritized Andean-origin river basins highly impacted by extreme weather events, identified in the national communications as highly vulnerable areas and selected for immediate attention, and to implement high priority adaptation activities.

AT PIPELINE ENTRY: This project is fully blended into the SIL for Tanzania for Energizing Rural Transformation. The ERT project will finance capacity building in the new rural electrification and ICT institution, will cost share support for business and market development, support credit and other financial mechanisms to facilitate long-term local commercial finance for RE and ICT businesses, strenghten ICT policy, and grid expansion.

The project objective is to enhance the sustainability and conservation effectiveness of the national protected area system of Dominican Republic and its contribution to national sustianable development. The project will support the reengineerng of the NPAS through two complementary approaches: one to enahnce the national system's position as an integral component of national development and increase the participation of the productive sectors and the broader society; and two to increase efficiencies within the NPAS and its constitunet PAs thus enhancing its overall sustainability.

Mali is one the 12 pilot countries participating in the pilot project "Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)". The project was part of the work program approved by the May 2001 Council meeting. That same meeting also approved the Guidelines for POPs enabling activities. This proposal is for an add-on that would allow Mali to complete the work needed to finalise its NIP. This add-on requested by Mali was envisaged at time of WP approval and CEO endorsement.

The global environment objective of the project is to protect regional biodiversity against the potential risks associated with introduction of LMOs into the environment. This will be achieved through the development of common science-based methods for risk assessment and management in the approval or rejection of LMOs' applications, in compliance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB) and other international standards.

The general objective of the project is to assist in the formulation of the National Implementation Plan through the analysis of current sources, existing stocks and use or POPs as well as the legislative and institutional arrangements for chemical management in order to develop a sustained capacity to fulfill Trinidad and Tobago’s obligations and reporting requirements under the Stockholm Convention.
