The project aim is to consolidate and extend the Liberian Protected Area Network. To have a comprehensive approach, other components will deal with capacity building and the development of conservation livelihood systems.

The Enabling Activity identified several weaknesses in the country’s biodiversity management plan. Some of these weaknesses are currently being addressed by government as the country struggles to deal with it fragile biodiversity in the face of changing land use and increasing economic preasures. This request for additional funds is to assist the government in addressing these weaknesses and make biodiversity management a sustainable and economically rewarding experience.

The overall reduction in degradation of the BCLME, with emphasis on the restoration of its depleted fisheries, through effective implementation and long-term sustainability of the BCLME SAP.
