The main objective of this 5 year project is to fully develop Brazil’s capability to manage and dispose of PCB oils, PCB containing equipment and other PCB waste in a sustainable manner in order to achieve timely compliance with the Stockholm Convention requirements for PCB management, and to minimize risk of PCB exposure to the population and the environment.

The project aim is to consolidate and extend the Liberian Protected Area Network. The main components financed by the GEF will focus on the strengthening of management instruments (strategy, law, financial mechanisms) and the creation of three new protected areas in critical Liberian ecosystems (lake Piso, Gola forest and Wonegizi forest) . To have a comprehensive approach, other components will deal with capacity building and the development of conservation livelihood systems.

To reduce vulnerability of coastal communities to the impacts of climate change-induced risks in four upazilas in the coastal districts of Barguna and Patuakhali (Western Region), Bhola (Central Region), Noakhali (Central Region), and Chittagong (Eastern Region).

The project goal is to conserve the biological diversity of Macedonia by strengthening the planning, establishment and management of Macedonia's national system of protected areas. Expected outputs are the following: (i) A representative national protected area system is designed; (ii) Improved systemic and institutional capacity provides the enabling framework for establishing and managing a representative protected area network; and (iii) Protected area's establishment and planning processes field tested and replicated across the Protected Areas network.

The objective of this project is to expand the protected area system of Kazakhstan to ensure an improved coverage of steppe ecosystems.

The project’s objective is to assist Government of Indonesia to scale-up development of geothermal resources for increased power generation by removing the barriers to it, in order to (a) provide renewable energy to the electricity market in an efficient and cost-effective manner and (b) significantly reduce Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions.

To integrate the climate change vulnerabilities and adaptation options of coastal communities into development planning processes in three provinces of southern Thailand

The Enabling Activity identified several weaknesses in the country’s biodiversity management plan. Some of these weaknesses are currently being addressed by government as the country struggles to deal with it fragile biodiversity in the face of changing land use and increasing economic preasures. This request for additional funds is to assist the government in addressing these weaknesses and make biodiversity management a sustainable and economically rewarding experience.

To improve resilience to current climate variability and future climate change by developing and implementing adaptation strategies and measures that will improve agricultural production and rural livelihoods

The overall reduction in degradation of the BCLME, with emphasis on the restoration of its depleted fisheries, through effective implementation and long-term sustainability of the BCLME SAP. Project Objective: The implementation of the BCLME SAP through the adoption of national policy reforms, the sustainable institutionalisation of a regional Commission, and the endorsement and ratification of a binding international Treaty for the LME.
